Feminist jewellery is a sartorial protest sign
In a world where we’re still addressing catcallers and demanding equal pay (partially, to treat ourselves to some dazzling feminist necklaces), it’s obvious that feminism touches all parts of our lives - even our fashion. With that in mind, we created this collection of feminist jewellery. Comprised of silver and gold-plated pieces, it’s part sartorial protest sign, and part celebration of femininity. Take your pick of statuesque pendants inspired by the female form, cheeky script earrings that say “tits,” or vintage-inspired rings in the shape of a boob. They are made with care for the planet, whilst the craftspeople working on them (many of whom are women) are fairly paid and treated. Accessible in price point, size, and audacity, these feminist jewellery pieces are outspoken enough for the women’s march, yet subtle enough for your next zoom meeting with your male boomer boss. Oh, well, yes Harold, my ring does say tits.
Feminism is for everyone, so is our feminist jewellery.
Feminism is for everyone. With that in mind, we designed our feminist jewellery for everyone too. Whereas clothes, characteristically, are limited to silhouettes and size ranges (and can therefore exclude people with various sizes, genders or body types), our feminist jewellery dangles freely from your body. You can choose if you want to embellish your ear or ears with one of our scripted tits earrings, which are sold as single pieces and therefore easy to mix, match or stack. Our boob- or body-adorned feminist necklaces are a match made in heaven with one of our chains, but they also work fantastically with a chain from your own collection. Although our rings will always be restricted by size, we made sure the options are plenty, and ring sizes are tailored to your pinky, ring, or middle finger. We even made a size chart, ensuring every ring will fit its wearer perfectly. Feminist jewellery for everyone!
Fashion and feminism: it’s complicated.
If fashion and feminism had to define their relationship status, they’d undoubtedly say: “it’s complicated.” So, we get that you’re weary of jewellery that claims to be feminist too. Buying a feminist necklace might seem like a frivolous or superficial way into the feminist movement, but it’s not inherently. Feminine things, like fashion or jewellery, often have the reputation of being frivolous and inferior to “masculine” things, like sports, music or film. Isn’t that exactly what we want to challenge as feminists? Sure, buying a tits-engraved signet ring is no replacement for reading a book or attending a march, and we need to be careful said ring is made by craftspeople (many of whom are women) under fair working conditions and for a fair wage, worn by a diversity of models and sold by a company that values social progress over profits. Those are all things we are very keen on, by the way. But when done so, feminist jewellery can be an accessible stepping stone for wearers to identify with the feminist movement, when protests, lectures, or addressing catcallers still seems too daunting.
Made in Thailand, conscious of craftspeople and the planet.
All our feminist jewellery is made in Thailand, in a factory holding a BSCI certificate. This means there is no discrimination, child or forced labour, the working environment is safe and workers have a say in factory regulations. The craftspeople who worked on our feminist jewellery did so for a fair wage, and under fair working conditions, like 8-hour working days, 1-hour breaks and decent workstations. When it comes to jewellery (feminist or otherwise), sourcing materials is very important, as mainstream metal mining often has disastrous consequences on environmental and labour conditions. That’s why we only work with 925 sterling certified recycled silver (from a supplier listed on the LBMA's (London Bullion Market Association), human-made Swarovski gemstones, ECO BRASS and 18k gold micron plating. All metals and gemstones are conflict-free, making sure they haven’t been mined in an area of armed conflict nor traded illicitly to finance fighting.
How to make your feminist jewellery last forever.
Inspired by a movement that’s over 170 years old, we designed our collection of feminist jewellery to have a certain timeless-ness. We want these pieces to be a lasting addition to your wardrobe, but also keep them sustainable and affordable. That’s why we opted for materials like recycled silver, gold plating and Swarovski gemstones, each coming with different care instructions. Like your shitty ex, gold plated feminist jewellery can be sensitive. We recommend you keep them away from water, oily, and chemical products, and remove them before showering and swimming. If your Swarovski jewels get dull (yawn), you can buff them with a thin cloth. But, if you want to get wild with your jewellery, we recommend investing in a silver piece. It’s low-maintenance, only need the occasional silver polish and can be worn forever.
